What are binaural beats?
They work by simultaneously sending a slightly different sound frequency to each ear through headphones.
They are brainwave entrainment technology designed to put our brain into different states.
The truth is that they are great brainwave entrainment that can set you in the meditative state very easy and quick.
Moreover, we can all agree that meditation can be difficult for some since they might find it hard to hold the mind’s focus.
Binaural beats give anyone a chance to use meditation as a tool for personal growth, relaxation or spiritual practice.
Furthermore, these beats are a perfect aid not only for meditation, but also for relaxation, better sleep, better thinking, and evidently, they can promote lucid dreaming!
How do they work?
The brail will try to match the 2 different frequencies, which will stimulate and changes your brain state.
For instance, the left ear gets a tone at 200 Hz and the right at 210 Hz*.
Your brain compensates for the difference and creates an internal frequency of 10 Hz.
That is how it enters into the Alpha brainwave frequency.
(see the image below to see all the different brainwave states)
Furthermore, the difference in the beats is the reason why our brains are able to enter various different states.
* hz — hertz; the measurement for frequencies
Binaural beats for lucid dreaming
Lucid dreaming is not the easiest thing to learn.
Maybe not for everybody, but for most of us it surely requires a lot of commitment, trial and error, and consistency.
Luckily, nowadays there are plenty of new technologies that offer incredible advantages.
Binaural beats are one of these advantages. They can giving you a shortcut to the fascinating world of lucid dreaming.
Before we dive into how these beats can induce lucid dreams, you need to understand the stages of sleep and the waves.
Your brain constantly produces electrical impulses in the form of brain waves.
- Beta waves – when you are awake; that period they travel faster
- Alpha waves – you move into it when you are more relaxed; that state, they move slower
- Theta waves – when you are asleep
- Delta waves – those waves have slowed down so much that you are in the deepest state of sleep/relaxation
As we sleep through the night, our brain cycles through Alpha, Theta and Delta waves.
We are in the Theta state when we dream — our mind is alert and actively creating, but you’re not physically or consciously aware of this.
If you wake up during this state, you’ll remember your dream.
If you wake up during Alpha, most likely you won’t remember your dreams.
So in order to experience lucid dreaming, you need to be in between Alpha and Theta — not too asleep, but not too awake.

How to lucid dream with binaural beats: Step by step guide
Step 1: Lucid dream basics
Binaural beats will work BEST if you include some lucid dream basics.
These fundamental parts are essential for lucid dreaming.
If you postpone them, at some point you will see that it is very hard and nearly impossible to lucid dream without practicing these essentials.
So, the sooner you start, the better.
If you include all of them, the chances of having a lucid dream will increase significantly.
1) Dream journaling
If you have a steady dream journaling habit, great! If not, you may think of starting it!
Writing down your dreams is extremely important!
It will improve your dream recall, it will help you to recognize if you are in a dream, through your dream symbols and a bunch of more things!
If you cannot remember them at the beginning, don’t be discouraged!
Simply, keep doing it and you will see a huge difference within weeks!
Furthermore, you have a page in your dream journal, where you can sort which beats worked best for you, and which ones didn’t.
If you want to see in depth WHY dream journaling is important, take a look at our guide on how to keep a dream journal for lucid dreams.
2) Reality checks
A second fundamental feature is that you need to be able to tell the difference between waking life and your dream world.
When we dream, we accept the dream world as a reality.
We are not aware, that we are dreaming. In order to change that, we need to be able to recognize if we are in the dream world.
A reality check is a simple action that will prove whether you dream or not.
For instance, try to push your palm with a finger. This is a famous reality check! For more ideas, click here!
Perform reality checks throughout the day to prove to yourself that you are awake.
Once you make these a habit, you’ll start doing them in your dreams, too which will make you realize that you’re dreaming.
Step 2: Lucid dream technique
Before binaural beats, it will be good to know how to perform 1 or 2 lucid dream techniques. There are full guides that you can check for:
– Wake Initiated Lucid Dream – WILD technique
– Wake up back to bed – WBTB technique
(this is if you wouldn’t mind to wake up during the night in order to perform the technique. You can see number 4, below, under ”Tips” for further explanation)
Figure out at least one of these techniques first, as you’ll need to use them along with the binaural beats.
Then, we can focus on the binaural beats.
Step 3: Binaural Beats
What you will need:
- a quiet and relaxing place to listen, such as your bed
- between 15-30 minutes listening time
- stereo headphones, because each ear hears the sounds in a different frequency and normal headphones won’t do that
- your phone or another music system (such as an MP3 player)
- eye mask (optional)
1) Lay down comfortably
Put your headphones, play the binaural beats, place the eye mask and relax.
2) Concentrate
Have an intention. Have lucid dreaming affirmations and repeat them silently in your mind. You can also visualize, for instance, your dream scene.
3) Focus on the sound and relax.
Leave your mind to wander. Try not to move your body at all.
4) Now is the technique!
After 15-30 minutes, just before going to sleep, perform the chosen from you lucid dream technique!
These steps are the 1-way ticket to your dream world!
Tips on how to use the binaural beats
1. The ideal lucid dream frequency:
The binaural beats frequency that is best HZ for lucid dreaming is 4HZ-8HZ, which is the Theta waves.
2. Avoid using the binaural beats, if:
You are undertaking tasks that require alertness and full attention, such as driving.
Read my full article for more information about some of The risks & side effects of binaural beats.
3. Binaural beats can increase your melatonin levels if you:
Stick to it. A small study found, that binaural beats improved the production of the hormones cortisol, DHEA, and melatonin!
And if you didn’t know, melatonin is essential for our sleeping patterns.
What is more, more melatonin can only increase the chances of lucid dreaming! Find out how here.
4. You can set up your alarm to wake you up after 4-6 hours and:
When you wake up, play your binaural beats through your stereo headphones.
Relax fully.
Listen to it for at least 15 minutes, while not moving a muscle.
Perform some of the mentioned above technique, just before falling asleep.
In that way, the chance of becoming lucid is raising!
Final words
It might sound very complex and hard, but the truth is that as long as you stick to the steps, you will be able to become lucid in your dreams!
The most important thing in order for you to success is:
to not give up & be consistent.
It might sound very cliche, but trust me, that’s the main reason why a lot of people don’t succeed.
Oftentimes, people skip the essential parts.
They jump on lucid dreaming supplements, and they wait for miracles.
Lucid dreaming supplements CAN help, but they are good just for ADDITIONAL support!
So, if you want to lucid dream, load yourself with patience, commitment, and motivation!
Please send me isochronic video and recording
hi admin thank you for sharing the information with us, if you clarify my doubt that would be great.
i Listened binaural beats for 15 minutes, while not moving a muscle. Then i performed some lucid dream techniques but the problem is I can’t sleep while the headphone stick with my ears. Shall i take out my headphone after 15 minutes ?
Here comes the another doubt if i tried to remove the headphone after 15 minutes my muscle will active again that would spoil the whole method !!! What should i do ?
please reply as soon as you can
Do you have earphones or earbuds? There are some headband type headphones that seem to help better for those that can’t sleep with regular headphones/earbuds. It is like a band that goes around the head and has speakers inside. Here is an example https://www.amazon.com/Headphones-Bluetooth-Headband-Sleeping-Headbands/dp/B07QLF7WHZ
There are many different ones, perhaps could try something like that out? *Note I am not affiliated with any company or anything, just trying to give some advice, i recently found out about these headbands and plan on trying them out myself as my headphones fall off during the night, and have a cord so afraid of pulling!)
Please give me a isochronic video and recording
