The top 5 techniques to astral project:
1. Visualization
One of the simplest and quickest ways to achieve astral projection is to utilize your ability to visualize.
While some of us believe we are not “visual” people. In fact, we all can visualize.
Whether it’s your favorite food, the face of a loved one or your ideal vacation destination, visualization can be a very powerful tool. And here’s the great news…
The more you practice, the better you become at visualizing. When you’re on the path to astral projection, the following is essential when you’re practicing visualization.
Try the following visualization technique when you go to bed:
1) Start to think about either a place, person, or object that’s located away from you
For instance, it can be a loved one (who’s not around), a vacation destination, or a cherished item. Ensure that what you choose is real and not made up.
If you choose a vacation spot, ensure it’s a place you’ve been to, and you have a clear memory of being there.
2) Think of the smallest details
As you visualize this place, person, or object in as much sensory detail as possible, allow yourself to drift off to sleep.
3) While you fall asleep, your mind may start to think about other things
When this happens, bring your focus back to your desired visualization as you transition from the waking world into the realm of sleep.
But now, you’re probably wondering: how EXACTLY can I use visualization to have an out-of-body experience?
Well, as long as you have a full-length mirror, you may find the following mirror technique to be highly effective:
The Mirror Technique:
STEP 1: Place a full-length mirror in your room.
Ensure it’s in a position where you can see your entire reflection without having to move
STEP 2: Look at your reflection and inspect your whole body.
Notice all the details, including your clothes. Try to memorize everything you see, as you imagine you are painting a picture of the image in your mind.
STEP 3: Now, close your eyes and start to visualize yourself, just like the mirror image you were studying.
Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you can see a clear version of yourself on the other side of the room.
STEP 4: When the imagined image is crystal clear, start to visualize this version of yourself moving around.
Start with small movements… The fingers… The arms… The toes… The legs… Take notice of the bodily sensations as you move.
STEP 5: When you feel yourself becoming synchronized with these movements, imagine yourself getting up and walking around.
Then, feel you imaginary eyes opening up and start seeing through the eyes of your imaginary self, looking around the room.
STEP 6: Now, completely relax and allow your physical body to fall asleep.
You’ll experience a shift of awareness from your body, to your imaginary body. Keep relaxed and enjoy this ability to visualize from a new perspective.
2. Dream Conversion
Dreams can be an ideal gateway to astral projection and any out-of-body exploration that you’d like to have.
How is this possible?
The keys are to do so through lucid dreaming, or by gaining a state of awareness during your dreams. If you’ve never attempted to lucid dream, it helps to understand what dreams are…
Most people just think of dreams as completely random, weird, and uncontrollable thoughts you have when your asleep. But, this isn’t quite true.
An important fact to mention here is that lucid dreams are not necessarily unconscious out-of-body experiences; they can be psychological manifestations similar to internal projections.
They are still compelling experiences. The essential element is how to respond once you become consciously aware that you are dreaming.
If you want to use the dream conversion method, you have to change your perspective as follows…
First off, start to think of dreams as a way for your subconscious to deliver messages. Start to think of dreams as authentic experiences.
Once you’ve managed to shift your perspective, follow the guide below.
Dream Conversion Guide
STEP 1: Start to keep a dream journal, preferable on a bedside table.
As soon as you wake up, record the details of each dream, including how you felt during the experience.
STEP 2: Set an intention of becoming more aware during your dreams.
You can achieve it through a variety of ways. An excellent place to start is by saying to yourself repeatedly at night, as you are falling asleep, some of the following:
– “I’m becoming aware of my dreams.”
– “As I fall to sleep, I remain aware.”
– “Now, I have a fully conscious out-of-body experience.”
When doing these affirmations, believe in them. It is essential if you want to make them work. Also, keep firm and positive.
STEP 3: To increase the chance to recognize that you are dreaming you need to work on enhancing your awareness, both in the real world and the dream world.
The truth is that dreams often appear to be extremely odd, and there are usually events, that is very unusual to happen in the real world.
You need to focus on that. This will be an easy way to figure that you are dreaming.
You can do that by trying to look for literally anything odd or out of the ordinary, such as:
– unusual surroundings or people; outlandish colors or shapes; strange buildings, pets, or other animals, strange events, illogical surcumstances, inappropriate person/location
STEP 4: Once you recognize that you are actually dreaming, acknowledge your awareness, by saying out loud:
– “I know I’m dreaming”
– “I am awake in my dream”
– “I’m now aware”
STEP 5: Imagine that you are in your room, lying in your bed (check the note below, too!).
Then, start to guide what you do and what happens to you in your dream. Concentrate on the transition of your consciousness from your dream state to your nonphysical body.
STEP 6: Now, focus your attention on floating up and out of your physical body.
Don’t rush and get carried away as you may wake up. Instead, let the movements happen gradually and organically.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
It may happen that you will wake up in the vibrational state while you are still in your physical body. If that happens, stay calm. Guide your inner self and your awareness, away from your physical body.
3. Affirmations
Affirmations have become more and more popular as a self-development tool over the last couple of decades.
An affirmation is a positive statement that individuals will say to themselves over and over again to help make a desired positive change.
Do affirmations work?
What we say to ourselves tends to shape our behavior.
If you think you can’t succeed at something, then you’ll probably end up failing. On the other hand, If you think you can succeed at something, then this increases your chances of success.
When using an affirmation to achieve astral projection (or any other outcome for that matter), it will only work if
you truly believe in what you’re saying.
If you’re new to affirmations, try the following when you go to bed at night:
• Choose a statement such as:
– “Now, I have an out-of-body experience.”
– “I’m remaining aware as my body falls asleep.”
– “Now I’m out-of-body!“
• Be sure you are comfy.
When you go to bed, lie on your back, and get as comfortable as possible.
• Say the affirmation to yourself, again and again, embodying the words you’re saying while upping the emotional intensity.
• Keep repeating the affirmation over and over again as you feel yourself getting sleepy.
• Continue with your statements as your body drifts off to sleep.
Now you’re successfully using affirmations, and you believe that you can have an out-of-body experience.
So, how do you have an out-of-body experience?
If you want a compelling technique, why not combine affirmations with visualizations?
And do you want to know the secret to setting yourself up for an almost-certain astral projection?…
by using the Early Morning Technique.
Even though it includes visualization, the technique is still ideal for people that are having a hard time to visualize.
You can perform it, even if you’re having difficulties with visualization because it does not require visualization skills.
This astral projection method is done when you’re in a REM state. REM is the phase of sleep when your eyes rapidly move back and forth as you dream towards the end of each sleep cycle.
However, REM activity peaks during the hours of the morning around 2-3 hours before your normal wake-up time.
Here are the steps for the Early Morning technique:
STEP 1: Set your alarm clock for around 3 hours before your standard wake-up time.
STEP 2: Move away from your bed
Once your alarm goes off, move to a different area of your house, such as your couch, where you can get comfortable.
STEP 3: Relax
As you allow yourself to relax, start to repeat your affirmations and move your attention away from your physical body.
STEP 4: Focus on your affirmations
As you get closer to going back to sleep, allow the feeling of your affirmations to become more intense, ensuring that your final thought before sleep is your affirmation.
Focus your attention further and further away from your body.
4. Hypnosis
In the past, hypnosis was something that was purely used by mysterious therapists and flamboyant stage-hypnotists.
Recently, the secrets of hypnosis have been shared and now anyone has access to its benefits.
Whether you’re a world-class performer, or you’re desperate to get rid of a crippling phobia, hypnosis could help you out. And when it comes to astral projection…?
There are four ways in which hypnosis can help you out if you want to experience a controlled out-of-body experience:
1. Hypnosis can induce the right state of mind and body. It will prepare you for astral projection.
2. Hypnosis can help you overcome and remove any subconscious mental blocks that you don’t realize you had.
3. Hypnosis can help you sharpen your visualization abilities, as well as your capacity to focus.
4. Hypnosis can help you set up a trigger that brings you into an out-of-body experience.
So, how do you use hypnosis? You have three options here.
1. Make an appointment with a qualified and credible hypnotist who can guide you through the process.
2. Utilize a self-hypnosis technique. Write down and then record a specific astral projection hypnosis script. It should be something like ”guided meditation for astral projection”.
Then playing it back to yourself when you want to have an out-of-body experience can be particularly useful.
3. Go online (on YouTube), write Hypnosis for Astral Projection and try to find already created astral projection hypnosis.
Find something that it’s at least 30-60 minutes. Listen to it while you are lying comfortably on your sofa or bed.

5. Sound / Binaural Beats
Did you know that a lot of scientific research is being carried out to determine how sound can be used to modify the state of the brain?
For example, the Monroe Institute has been investigating the relationship between astral projection and sound.
They suggested that by introducing two precise sound frequencies with two different wavelengths to each ear can maybe help to induce astral projection.
While scientific research continues in this area, you can try The Sound Technique, by taking the following steps:
STEP 1: Lay down and let your body relax as you start to take a few deep breaths.
As you close your eyes, start to place your attention just above the crown of your head.
STEP 2: Keep your attention there until the sensations of your physical body start to evaporate and disappear.
STEP 3: Intone an “OM” sound seven times, allowing the sound to resonate through the top of your head.
STEP 4: Now, repeat the “OM” sound another 7 times, but this time in your mind.
STEP 5: As you focus on the resonance of the sound above your head, allow the sound to travel upwards as your awareness here increases gradually.
STEP 6: Allow your physical body to sleep and relax as your intention intensifies on the rising sound. As your body falls asleep, your concentration on the sound rises and rises.
Binaural Beats
Going further, there are Binaural Beats that are specially designed to induce an astral projection.
If you are not familiar with these unique beats, the most important thing you need to know about it is:
Binaural Beats are sounds that stimulate and changes your brain state. They can affect our dream, sleep, relaxation, what is more, they can enhance different STATES of mind.
These particular beats can provoke a deep, relaxed state, which will prepare you to have an OBE. The brainwave entrainment will aid in having more easily an out of body experience.
The steps are very easy. All you need to do is:
STEP 1: Lay down on a comfortable surface and play on your headphones the specially designed binaural beats for astral projection.
STEP 2: Relax completely and wait for the vibration state.
STEP 3: Once you feel it, start thinking intensively about leaving your physical body.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
You can combine the binaural beats with some of the suggested methods above for higher chances.
Essentially, you can even perform The Rope Technique, which is very easy and ideal for beginners. Find an easy guide for this method in our article here.

Essential astral projection tips
As you set out to discover astral projection using one (or a combination) of the techniques above, there are a few things that you should know:
1. Remain calm as you notice any shift in awareness.
It’s particularly common for beginners to get excited and stimulated when they experience any new sensations.
Much like waking up from a dream, this may have the effect of “snapping” your consciousness back to the physical body.
2. Try and develop a habit of self-control.
When you start to experience any sensations before or during astral projection, allow and encourage them to happen.
3. Move away from your physical body.
Above, you’ve learned several techniques, such as using affirmations, to direct the attention away from your physical body.
Remain aware of your thoughts because even random thoughts can crop up and get you thinking about the body again. This will more than likely “snap” you out of any kind of out-of-body experience.
4. Keep your focus away from the physical body.
You can do this by immersing yourself more and more in the environment you’re currently experiencing.
